Sense and Sensibility, the fresh take on Jane Austen’s classic from Focus Features and Working Title Films, has rounded out its cast with several key additions. The film has started filming in the United Kingdom. It is being directed by BAFTA Award nominee Georgia Oakley, from a script by bestselling author Diana Reid. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films will produce alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett.
Starring alongside the previously announced Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, respectively, the cast features Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, George MacKay, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, and Fiona Shaw.
Caitríona Balfe has been nominated for five Golden Globes — once for her supporting role in Best Picture nominee Belfast and four times consecutively for her lead role in Starz’ long-running hit Outlander. Balfe is also a BAFTA nominee for Belfast and a three-time Critics Choice nominee on behalf of Outlander. Balfe has also appeared in films including Ford v Ferrari, The Amateur, Now You See Me, and Super 8, and she will co-star alongside Willem Dafoe and Tom Hiddleston in Tenzing and is the female lead opposite Orlando Bloom in the upcoming Paramount film “The Cut.” Balfe is represented by WME, Emptage Hallett, Cognition, and Jackoway Austen.
Frank Dillane is perhaps best known for his role as Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, he won the Best Actor prize in the Un Certain Regard section for his lead role in Harris Dickinson’s Urchin, which will release in the fall. He also starred in several seasons of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Sense8. He is represented by WME, B-Side Management, and Tapestry.
George MacKay is a British actor best known for his lead role in the 2019 war film 1917. MacKay has also starred in films such as Pride, Captain Fantastic, and True History of the Kelly Gang. He is represented by UTA, Donna French of Gordon & French, and Granderson Des Rochers.
Norwegian actor Herbert Nordrum starred alongside Renate Reinsve in Joachim Trier’s Oscar-nominated The Worst Person in the World, and alongside Julia Garner in The Royal Hotel. He recently starred in Ernst De Geer’s The Hypnosis and won multiple awards for his performance. Additional credits include the acclaimed Norwegian historical drama The King's Choice and four seasons of Young and Promising. He is represented by Taylor Jefferson and Zoe Stoker at The Artists Partnership and Elise Christine Eide at Pullman.
Bodhi Rae Breathnach is slated to appear in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ric Roman Waugh’s untitled Jason Statham thriller. She currently stars in the ongoing So Awkward Academy and appeared in the BBC’s BAFTA-nominated The Capture. She is represented by The Artists Partnership.
Fiona Shaw is a BAFTA winner and three-time Emmy nominee. Her film credits include Hot Milk, Echo Valley, IF and several installments in the Harry Potter franchise, in which she played Aunt Petunia. She is set to star alongside Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike in Netflix’s upcoming Ladies First. On the small screen, she earned Emmy nominations for her roles in Killing Eve and Fleabag. She also starred in True Detective, Bad Sisters, and Andor. She is represented by Independent Talent Group and CAA.
